We think it’s fabulous that Josh Wood – the colourist beloved by the fashion world who now is Redken’s global colour creative director – is marrying the smokey eye look with a glamorous colour technique. His new Smokey Ombré is adorable and takes a timeless make-up look and makes it work magic on hair. “Smokey Ombré is a way to think about hair colour as make-up,” says Josh. “Like contouring or shadowing or strobing. It’s a way of adding light and shade, which can make any hairstyle look amazing.”
Josh worked with editorial make-up artist Aaron de Mey to achieve this image pictured here. “The smokey eye transcends time,” de Mey says. “That’s why it’s been a classic for so long. It can be very subtle and soft, or very daring and dynamic. It’s a style that looks great on everybody, depending on the application.”
The look is modeled here by Ashley Moore in a new campaign for Redken. Try a soft natural loo, or go for chic and smouldering colour, or try a dramatic pop of colour. Whichever way, the look is smokey, sexy, and softly diffused.
