Introducing Emma Fowler – a colour fanatic! We watched Emma tearing it up at Colour World 2023. Enjoy her looks created during the weekend.
A little more on Emma… She spends a huge chunk of her time dedicated to upskilling by offering affordable education. She runs an independent education business from her Essex salon and hosts a strong Facebook group. From starting as an in-salon assessor, and then working with two leading brands as an educator, Emma went on to create her own independent education business with membership, online courses and masterclasses.
Let’s hear some more about her history…
Emma studied Law and Maths at college before taking a hairdressing apprenticeship and finding her true passion. Her party trick is ‘balayage in under 30 mins’ and her free masterclass Speed Balayage is hugely popular. Teaching online and in person, Emma offers a mix of learning options including a membership of over 500 hairdressers; 12 and 6-week courses designed to give confidence to the everyday hairdresser; sell-out masterclasses at her studio and private education for salon teams.
While specialising in blondes, Emma is passionate about all colouring and teaches a blend of practical techniques and business skills so that members understand how to market and profit from their colour skills. Emma still works behind the chair herself, but education now accounts for more than 97% of her turnover. Her practical advice to help stylists tackle this modern era of Instagram colouring is very much in demand.
Emma says:
“Central to what I do is to help raise standards in this particular area of hairdressing which can be quite poorly looked upon by the industry. In fact, according to the British Beauty Council, NHF and Office for National Statistics*:
- There are 260k jobs in the hair industry
- 88% of the workforce is female
- 60% are self-employed (vs 15% across the workforce as a whole)
“These are passionate people, predominantly women, who want to grow their businesses in ways that suit them. Recent years have provided a hostile environment for UK high streets, with a perfect storm created by austerity, crippling rents and business rates, 2019 was the worst year for sales in a quarter of a century. Post-covid and in an energy crisis, freelance/home hairdressing is a valuable and valid way of working that suits women who often have childcare and other factors to juggle while pursuing their career.”
Emma has three courses on offer:
