2021, the year of the unknown, the what ifs and -at the same time- the year we all hoped would be different. However when it comes to hair, it’s time to shake things up and bring back the energy that we all desire! Or at least let’s hope that we will do it soon- when salons re-open! But what will be hot in 2021? Hairdresser Barry Maddocks is giving us his predictions for 2021 for hair cut and colour trends and clients’ desires.
Fire away, Barry!
Cut
Fringes: The face framing favourite is back in every style and form you can imagine – it’s time to get creative! From the grown out curtain fringes, to fringes with a curl and the sixties inspired eyelash-grazing fringe. The micro fringe will also still be a huge trend for 2021 for those who want to get that little bit more adventurous.
Colour
The ‘Queen’s gambit’ effect: It’s all about the Queen’s gambit effect! Beautiful copper crops are the must have trend for 2021 teamed with a flicked out ends, giving a nod to the sixties. Dependant on the individuals the colour can of course be tailored to suit the complexion of the client and deeper shades such as Apricot and Burnt Orange will be popular alongside lighter shades such as Sun and flame Orange.
Blondes: We are moving from the ice blondes to the sandy blondes – something a little more casual and natural for SS21 with the addition of cool browns and warm honey tones to give a real multidimensional feel. It’s a much more luxurious and expensive feel for the blondes this year.Brunettes: It’s brown on brown dimensions for 2021, think deep hazelnut with an exceptional shine. It’s time for the brunettes to shine and tones such as mocha and chestnut will be added to break up the one look colour and give it a different edge.Images are from Barry’s collection titled Poise.
