We love her work at Colour World, and now Emma Fowler is coming in hot with this controversial opinion… Let’s see what you think when hearing Emma’s view that blonde transformations are usually much better in one sitting.
We often hear how Instagram and celebrity example encourages clients to believe they can have instant blond transformations. We know it’s often unrealistic, and they can’t be done in a day, BUT…
Emma says: “Like me, when many colourists were trained to get a client to blonde, you would encourage them to do multiple sets of full heads of highlights. This is because back then our techniques were far more limited, and we didn’t have the products that we have today.
“What I’ve come to realise is that it’s better to get your client to blonde in as few bleaching sessions as possible. This can be better for hair health in the long run and, it’s more cost-effective. If I was going to take the client to blonde in one day it would be cheaper than having them split it out across four full head sessions and that’s exactly how I lay it out at the consultation. I say, there are two options. I can do this in one day and it will cost this amount, or we could do it over multiple sessions and it would cost you this. It‘s the client’s choice. I would also explain to them that one bleaching session is healthier for the hair.”
Here’s the back story to this advice. Emma Fowler runs a successful independent education business from her Essex salon – she has a 10k strong Facebook group and has been educating hairdressers for more than 15 years. She started as an in-salon assessor, then worked with two leading brands as an educator before creating her own independent education business with membership, online courses and masterclasses.
Specialising in blondes, Emma is passionate about all colouring and teaches a blend of practical techniques and business skills. She wants her followers to understand how to market and profit from their colour skills. Importantly, Emma still works behind the chair herself, but education now accounts for some 97% of her turnover.
