Introducing the Blank Canvas collection, created by Mark Van Westerop. The collection is an explosion of colour, combining the models’ natural hair with wigs to emphasise the power of colour and texture. We love to see creativity expressed through hair, and Mark has definitely ticked that box. Take a look at how the photographer has used movement to capture that perfect shot of the colour…
An educator and artistic hairdresser of repute, Mark Van Westerop is the founder and creative director of Pro-Solo in Alkmaar, The Netherlands. He has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, shown through his success winning awards! He has been named as Dutch Hairdresser of the year three times and is the Global Ambassador Cut & Style for Keune Hair Cosmetics, a brand we loved at Colour World. Mark also spends a lot of time backstage at shows and shoots, really testing his abilities. His work has appeared in magazines including Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and Elle, and has worked with designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Tommy Hilfiger and Iris van Herpen. That’s a pretty impressive CV.
Let’s hear from Mark…
“This collection is bursting with colour. It is an ode to craftsmanship. We’re going back to basics. It’s all about technique, both in colour and in cutting and styling. I like to be inspired by modern, abstract paintings. I love to watch that explosion of colours, that ease and freedom. In this collection, I go back to basics, to primary and secondary colours and the structure of the colour star. Colours in their purest form – red, yellow and blue – can be seen in every look. By positioning and stacking them in a certain way, new colours are created and they kind of merge with each other.”
