It is once again time to enjoy the sunshine and with that sunshine the beautiful lighter champagne, platinum and golden tones trend. Yes, we’re talking about blonde, specifically the luxe blonde trend… Which at the moment, is everywhere!
JOICO ambassador Dan Spiller tells us, “as a colourist, I know all too well that blondes are of course the trend of the Spring and Summer seasons. Clients love nothing more than a beautiful, multi-dimensional colour that equates to that of a sun-kissed look.
LUXURY
However, for SS22, it’s time to bring a sense of luxury back into the colour market, with the latest trend, Luxe Blonde. We’ve all heard of the ‘Rich Reds’ and the ‘Exclusive Brunettes’, yet now it’s time for blondes to take the spotlight and become opulent, stand-alone trends. The Luxe Blonde trend is based on a mix of different shades freehand coloured onto the hair, using fewer low lights and shadows and focussing on a higher percentage of highlights – with a variety of different shades and tones throughout. The use of multi-tonal colour not only creates a transformative dimensional look, it also brings each colour together, creating a warmer and much more expensive looking colour. It’s important to note that the use of multi-tonal colours also reduces the unwanted brassy tones often seen through blondes.
THE TECHNIQUE
When creating this gorgeous colour, using a freehand technique in order to apply the colour is the best way to achieve a luxury feel. Depending on the number of colours used to create the look (I would advise between 3-5 shades), apply this in a routine placement of your choice. For me, dependent on the client’s skin tone I would tailor the placement in order to compliment this. I use JOICO Blonde Life 9 Vol on a lot of my clients when creating this look.
THE CARE
Caring for blondes as we know is extremely important, to ensure the colour is kept looking its absolute best and as bright and vibrant as ever. If the client experiences or has extreme warmth throughout, using a toner or inviting them back in between appointments for a toner would be my suggestion, along with a professional blonde home care regime.
