Introducing the new Schwarzkopf Professional Young Artistic Team for 2023!
Six hairdressing stars have joined the 2023 Schwarzkopf Professional Young Artistic team! The announcement comes following auditions judged by session stylist Ellie Bond and celebrity hairstylist and colourist Kris Barnes. Schwarzkopf and their judges chose talent from across the UK and Ireland for the year-long mentoring programme designed to develop future stars. It’s great to see emerging talent nurtured in such a creative space.
This year, judging for the team took place in January, with the judges inviting 14 successful candidates down to London. The process included an in-person demo session (with candidates previously having online auditions). We hear it was a day of impressive skills, techniques and creativity.
Here’s the detail: Finalists had already been asked to prep their models using Schwarzkopf Professional colour. They then had one hour to demo their abilities on the day, with total creative freedom. The only rule was that at least 5cm had to be cut from the model’s hair. Other than that, finalists had free range to produce a finished style bringing to life their aesthetic while representing their technical skills.
Judges looked at the entire finished look, taking makeup and clothes choices into account as the hair. Each hairdresser presented their finished model and mood-board to the judges, detailing their inspirations and technical and creative process.
Despite the nerves, each finalist demonstrated an abundance of creativity and passion, reflecting the wealth of talent in the industry. It’s so exciting to see new and emerging talent across the industry, and easy to see a bright future.
Ellie Bond says: “This was my second year judging the YATs, and what a fantastic lineup we had! I love seeing the finalists’ interpretations of different looks and understanding their creative process. My favourite part of the day is the interview and hearing about their inspirations and goals. Each one brought so much passion, and the standard was very high, so our job was very hard. I’m super excited to see the new team’s journey ahead and follow their progression over the year.”
Kris Barnes added: “I had such a fun day judging for Schwarzkopf Pro and helping them to create the 2023 YAT team. It was so hard to select the final six because there were so many stunning looks from 14 undoubtedly very talented hairdressers.”
Each new member is ready to immerse themselves in a year of education and opportunities.
