Jack Howard and Harriet Stokes French Balayage Tour

Balayage king Jack Howard and the equally colourful Harriet Stokes recently embarked on a French Balayage tour around the UK, showcasing simple and effective techniques, the art of foiling and painting, and demoing L’Oréal Professionnel’s new Blond Studio Pulp Lightening Balm.

Taking centre stage at the L’Oréal Professionnel’s French Balayage: Foil It or Paint tour, the dynamic duo visited Glasgow, London, Dublin and Liverpool to inspire colourists around the country with their approach to creating the perfect balayage result.

Colour education

The pair demonstrated when to use foil and paint, the importance of the consultation and managing client expectations.

L’Oréal Professionnel Ambassador, Jack said: “A lot of colourists do one or the other or don’t know the difference between foiling and freehand painting, when to do one technique over the other, and the beautiful results you can get. So we set out to do some really beautiful commercial looks, explaining why you’d use foiling or painting, to create really modern results. Clients are coming into the salon asking for balayage, but I think they are asking for the look rather than the technique and we have so many great cross sections of approaches to it.”

Best results

The pair focused on money pieces, hairlines and overall nice formulations with different pre-lighteners to show how they can get you different results.

L’Oréal Professionnel Ambassador, Harriet added: “Over the years as trends and client expectations have changed, we have had to adapt our approach to colour. It could be using one technique or combing the two to create a really beautiful finish.”

The tour also saw the launch of the new Blond Studio Purple Lightening Balm, which Jack described as a ‘game changer.’ Harriet added: “L’Oréal Professionnel Blond Studio Purple Lightening Balm is my new go-to product, it’s great for every base and hair type as the consistency is the perfect texture for both techniques.”
