Rush job done brilliantly

We enjoyed bumping into the Rush Artistic Team as they presented Frequency, the latest collection,  in a Masterclass setting at Salon International a couple of weeks back.

Rush International Creative Director Andy Heasman headed up the team presenting Rush’s trademark precision haircutting and colouring techniques focussed (as is all they do) on strength and movement.

The colour team for the Frequency Masterclass was lead by three times winner of Southern Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards, Sueng Ki Baek. He was joined on stage by Rush Colour Team members Kirsty Judge and Poonam Memhi.

Sueng Ki Baek used a variety of techniques including reverse layers ie short to longer using higher to lower weight lines, to create softness, This exposed beautiful bursts of colour from soft copper blondes to turquoise.

Poonam Memhi worked on a short haired model with pre-lightened panels to enhance the shape of the haircut. High frequency colours used high-definition lighter tones, and low frequency used darker more expensive tones providing light and dark bases focusing on positive energies. Poonam used sponges to apply and blend mottled shades mixing tones of lilac, turquoise, yellow and aubergine, showing the versatility of the sponges which she often uses in salon when blending balayage colours.

Kirsty Judge’s model was a beautifully lightened ‘clean’ blonde which provide an ethereal base colour to work on. The haircut by Andy gave her lots of  panels to work on. Taking her inspiration from the Chakras, Kirsty added a subtle yet defining plate using Goldwell’s Ellumen of mint and yellow with nuances of lilac woven through the hair to create illuminous panels.

Ta dah colour

Rush Editorial Director, Tina Farey and Rush Artistic Team Member Sophie Chandler are renowned for their avant garde and editorial work.  Their stage models showcased texture and colour. Oranges, reds and greens fused together to produce a shape that was extreme. Sophie created her models look by using a pin frizz technique which she then brushed out to create a mass of colour and energy. Tinas model ‘s hair was inspired by nature and with the third eye chakra forming a standout headpiece. Oranges and blues bled out to red and green to create an otherworldly look with the third eye chakra visible for all to see.

The final presentation brought to the stage the juxtaposition of light and dark. Two models took to the stage to showcase cut, colour – stand out shapes that ranged from sleek and smooth with a glass like shine to textured and bold.  The final model’s hair resembled shards of glass with candy colours of pink and mint green all pushed forward. Subtle beads of light dripped off the ends of the hair reflecting the energy that lives on in all of us. For the finale, all models took to the stage to give the audience a final look at the latest Rush collection – Frequency.

“We wanted to take the audience on a journey – showing how cutting and colouring techniques can work together to create strong dynamic shapes and outstanding colour palates. We wanted to give our audience something to think about and to explain the Rush philosophy of Strength and Movement and how this viewpoint can be translated into every aspect of our work from salon work to show work and editorial work.” Andy Heasman
