Behind

We enjoy a fresh view on hair photography from Gen Z, and Behind is a great example of why! Under the direction of Marlon Hawkins – a colourist who clearly has a super-bright future, the Fellowship for British Hairdressing Clubstar Art Team is ‘doing it’ for the young ones.
Clubstar Art Team Collection 2024
Cleverly using shades and tone rather than colour, Marlon and the team show how compelling the use of black and white can be. Let’s explain…

Behind – a collection

A team of younger creatives, the Clubstar project provides an opportunity to enjoy mentorship and education in order to challenge and learn. This year, Brooks & Brooks colourist Marlon Hawkins not only art-directed, but also photographed a collection of work called ‘Behind’. You’ll see from the photographs just why!

Inspiration –  two ‘blank canvases’ of a darker-haired model and a lighter are photographed from the back. When styling and applying pieces and wigs, the team created an illusion of ‘which side is the model facing?’ Avoiding the more usual front facing, photographic collection, Clubstar delivers  a creative hair artwork on live models.
It’s colour work, but not as we know it. So fun. Well done.
