Browsing the new releases, we’re interested to see a book that addresses one of the biggest concerns for colourists – how to cope with accusations of malpractice.
Forearmed is Forewarned: Your guide to professional hairdressing and sound procedures
The title of a new book is quite a mouthful, but actually worth getting your chops around – it could save you plenty of headaches. Written by Debbie Digby, CEO of Passion4Hair, and managing director of Feather Salon Group, who is eager to share her experiences of legal issues around chemical services in the hairdressing industry. She speaks from personal experience, having faced a horrible legal battle in 2015 from a solicitor representing a client who claimed 10 actions carried out in Debbie’s salon. These actions, they claimed, had caused damage to the client’s hair, and rendered the salon negligent. We’ll let Debbie explain:
“It all started with a fairly normal situation, which every salon owner faces at some point; an unhappy colour client. As a salon owner for more than 28 years, I am a complete stickler for process and procedure and knew that we were fully in the right. We were shocked to receive the solicitor’s letter – the allegations against us were quite something.”
Legal battle
Debbie displayed great courage (given how overwhelming solicitors accusations can be), and was determined to fight to clear her name. It took two years and four months, and included trial dates, insurance companies, and plenty of guts. Eventually, Debbie won her case. Masses of research had helped, and she’s now hopeful that using her experience may help other salons and business owners.
“One of the things that helped me throughout the case was learning about other cases and having the ability to make comparisons. I wanted to write this book to help build confidence in others when dealing with matters of this nature,” says Debbie.
