Watch out colourists… there is an increasing appetite for colour placement in stripes, strips and bands. Hello bi-colour… so you need to be totally on top of the ‘clean lines’ you create between contrasting tones/shades. Ensure your parallel lines are up to it!
This Bi-colour process from Sonia Jimenez Cambronero caught our eye for being super easy to relate to. Have a browse and feel inspired!I In this look, an intense black sits with a vibrant, neon yellow. It’s perfectly divided by a symmetrical centre part. So visually powerful.
Prepare to bi-colour

The process begins with you creating a perfectly straight centre part, running from the forehead to the nape of the neck. Both halves must be separated using clips, ensuring they are completely outlined and balanced.
Porosity Treatment? It is recommended to wash the hair only if it is very dirty, avoiding the use of moisturising shampoos or conditioners. A porosity-balancing treatment should then be applied to the mid-lengths and ends, following the product’s instructions. It is essential to dry the hair completely before starting the bleaching process.
Bleaching (Yellow Side): The bleach should be prepared with a 10-vol developer to preserve the integrity of the hair fibre. Application is done exclusively on the half intended for the yellow colour. Keep an eye on the dividing line. Maybe work with a small brush for precise application. The product should remain until a lightening level of 9 to 10 is achieved (very light blonde to extra light blonde), with constant monitoring. Once the desired shade is reached, rinse only half, apply a gentle shampoo, and dry completely.
Color Application
For the black half, apply colour 1.0 from roots to ends, taking care not to bleed onto the opposite section. It is recommended to use plastic wrap along the central division to avoid pigment transfer. On the neon yellow side, apply the direct dye on previously bleached and dry hair, ensuring even saturation by working in fine sections. The exposure time will depend on the manufacturer’s instructions.
Finish clean
Each half should be rinsed separately to prevent pigment mixing. Use cold water and avoid shampoo, especially on the side with direct dye. Afterwards, apply a conditioner or nourishing treatment to both sections. Drying can be done with cold or warm air, and it is recommended to straighten the hair for a polished and defined finish.
Colour Maintenance
To preserve the results, it is advisable to use a sulfate-free shampoo specially formulated for fantasy colors. The neon yellow may require touch-ups every two to three weeks, depending on the desired intensity and washing frequency. The black tone generally has greater longevity, especially if washing is minimized or pigmented shampoos are used.
