Bob Cat

Have fun and brush up on your creative colouring with this inspo on creating bob with ‘stripes’… a disco kitty look that makes us smile in Pastel Pink + Turquoise Green

Read through the process of creating a creative hair color on a bob cut with diagonal stripes in pastel pink and turquoise green tones. Hairdresser Sonia Cambronero calls it a modern, vibrant, and delicate look. Follow each stage carefully to ensure a uniform, well-defined result.

Evaluation and preparation

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail as they say. So consider this:

  • Assess the condition of the hair. If it is damaged, consider performing a strengthening treatment first.
    • If the scalp is clean, wash with an alkaline shampoo.
    • Dry the hair thoroughly before applying bleach.

Gentle bleaching

Goal: Lighten the hair to a level 10 (very light blonde), ideal for pastel tones.
• Use bleach with a 10-volume developer for more controlled, gentle lightening.
• Apply to dry hair, divided into 4 sections.
• Start with mid-lengths and ends; apply to roots only if necessary.
• Monitor until the desired level is reached.
• Rinse, wash with a technical shampoo, and dry completely.

Creative sectioning

Next you want to get the sectioning right.
• Part the hair down the middle to divide it into two equal parts.
• Mark diagonal stripes from the temples toward the nape, in an inverted “V” shape or at a right angle.
• Isolate these stripes using foil or transparent plastic film.

Color application

Base color: pastel pink (you can mix intense pink with white conditioner or use a direct dye like a “Rose Quartz”).
• Apply pastel pink all over the hair except for the diagonal stripes.
• On the stripes, alternate between pastel turquoise green and pink (either more intense or the same pastel).
• Use a fine brush, following the diagonal design carefully.
• Protect each stripe with film or foil to avoid color bleeding.

Processing time

Let the colour sit for 20 to 30 minutes, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Visually monitor how the pigment sets.

Rinse and treatment

  • Rinse with cold water, avoiding rubbing or mixing tones.
    • Use a sulfate-free shampoo and a hydrating conditioner.
    • Finish with a leave-in that offers thermal and color protection.

Cut and Styling

Create a straight bob cut, with the ends slightly curved toward the face. Blow-dry with a flat brush and use a flat iron to emphasize the stripe design. Finish with a few drops of serum to add shine and definition.

Notes from Sonia

  • If the hair is very porous, apply a pre-colour treatment or porosity equalizer before using pastel dye for better adherence and even results.
    • Pastel turquoise green can be made by mixing an intense turquoise with white diluter or a neutral white mask.
    • Do a strand test before applying color to the whole head to see how it reacts on the base
    • Mark all the stripes before starting color applications to maintain symmetry.
    • Use fine brushes and thin gloves for greater precision in detailing.
    • Have all isolation materials (film, foil) ready to keep the work area clean and prevent color contamination.
    • Plan the color application order ahead of time to ensure the design is clear and balanced.
