Steph Peckmore colour trends for AW19

Steph Peckmore wowed the judges in the Colour World Colour Genius awards to scoop the title #Colourtastic Genius, and we’ve been watching her closely ever since. This feisty young lady – Colour Manager at Bad Apple salons group in the Midlands – is in love with all things colour! Here’s her advice on what’s upcoming on the colour scene.

What she says!

While the Summer sizzles through a bank holiday weekend, Steph keeps one eye on the upcoming season and gives us her take on the colour trends we should watch out for, and which you can translate into wearable looks for your clients.

Steph Peckmore grey

Tones of black

“Fashion had a love affair with grey a few seasons back, before turning its back in favour of platinum and white. Now the quietly stylish neutral is back, but not as an all-over colour. This time around, we’re seeing chunky concrete-grey block streaks added to contrasting coloured hair – usually black. It’s a look that dominated Alexander Wang’s most recent Fashion Week show, and is a trend we’ve recreated as part of our Remix collection; an Eighties’ inspired collection of high-energy luxe looks and magnetic monochrome. Colour placement is crucial to determining the finish and for Remix we hand painted carefully selected sections of hair to create the appearance of a glass-like reflection, in a similar way to the technique used to create ‘shine bands.’ It’s a fresh, flattering and glamorous way to go grey.”

Steph Peckmore peaches

Peaches and gleam

“Peach has been the fruity shade of the moment for a while now, and it’s going nowhere. Mary Katrantzou’s models featured the colour heavily at the brand’s AW19 show, but this winter’s take is less sugary and more glam. Forget dusty peach tints and barely-there apricot washes, the new season take is metallic peach. This is a punchy, strong and deliberate shade, with a high-gloss metallic finish that instantly lifts peach from a delicate hint of colour to a high-octane hue. Bad Apple Hair’s Rise collection is a clear interpretation of this, showcasing how energetic traditional pastel colours can look when given the high-shine treatment. If you want to really nail this trend, leave the roots natural and colour-free.”

Steph Peckmore Pearl

Pearly queen

“Pearlescent shades with super-reflective shine are set to be big this winter. You can try this look with most pastel shades and delicate colours, but pearly white – as seen at Erdem’s AW19 show – is very on trend right now. It’s iridescent opal is particularly eye-catching. To create a pearlescent shade of opal, the base needs to be lifted to a level-10 Platinum (I wouldn’t advise trying this on hair that’s naturally darker than mid brown) before using a mix of violet-based toners for a pastel opalescent finish. The end result is a far more grown-up version of unicorn hair and since the colour is so light and sheer, it will eventually just fade to blonde, so there’s no annoying in-between stage that requires touch-ups. If a client wants to try the pearlescent trend without the colour, a shimmering blend of silvery grey and cool-toned blonde creates a gorgeous gem-like shimmer.”

Thanks Steph! Looks gorgeous to us!
