TrendVision Award 2020 finalists

Uplifting news as the Wella Professionals TrendVision Award 2020 finalists for the UK are announced! This has become one of the most iconic hair competitions in the hairdressing calendar and for 2020 the competition had a refreshing new format with five completely new categories to enter.

The categories are: ‘Colour Artist’, ‘Colour Specialist’ (new for 2020), ‘Editorial Look’ (new for 2020), ‘Craft Artist’ (new), ‘Men’s Hair’ (new) and ‘Style Master’ (new).

This year’s firsts

For the first time, entering this year has been on Instagram. So easy! Competitors were asked to simply upload an image that had been created in the last 12 months, using the relevant hashtags.

Now remember, TrendVision is open to anyone living or working in the UK or Ireland, who is either working in a salon or as an independent stylist, and you don’t need to be a Wella Professionals account. Due to the exceptional circumstances of Covid-19, the entry deadline was extended and it was also possible to enter using a mannequin head. You could enter by simply using a hashtag and declaring that the Trendvision competition has the right to use your pictures.

The judges

The criteria for TrendVision changed this year and it’s been incredible to see the level of creativity and flair that’s been demonstrated. The whole format has been adapted in response to COVID-19 and it’s fantastic that the competition has been able to continue. The entry levels have been overwhelming and been tough choosing the entries that will go on to the next stage. TrendVision is such a prestigious award; it’s no wonder the interest to enter is higher than ever. I wish all the finalists good luck,” said judge Darren Ambrose, from D&J Ambrose.

This year, the photographic judging was all done digitally and remotely by a wide range of highly acclaimed hairdressing experts and icons who worked their way through the record number of entries. Need names? Well how about this little lot for integrity and keeping standards high!  This year’s judges are: Clayde Bauman, Robert Eaton, Sharon Cox, Andrew Dunne, Georgia Bell, Jayson Gray, Warren Boodaghians Dmitry Vinokurov, Elaine Sullivan, Kai Wan, Jordanna Cobella, Stephen Aiken, Casey Coleman, Craig Purves, Sonya Dove, Gareth Vance, Paul Adamczuk, Bruce Masefield, Colin McAndrew, Brandon Messinger, Akin Konizi, Jake Unger, Darren Ambrose, Charlie Taylor, Sarah Mason, Dylan Smith, Kieron Fowles, Carol Joyce,  Kerry Hayden, Kevin Luchmun, Chris Mullen, Glenn McGormick, Ben Sutcliffe, Dom Capel, Gustav Fouche, Jon Wilsdon, Luke Benson, Lamphane Pathammachak, Mary Geoghegan, and Janine Jennings.

What’s next?

The next stage of the competition is the Digital UK Regional & Ireland Heats, where those that have made it through will compete online between 1st – 15th June. This stage of the competition is digital and involves the photographic winners submitting their original before and after looks from their photographic entry, and recording a short video explaining the technique, inspiration, application and inspiration behind their looks.

The winners of this stage will then compete in the TrendVision Award UK & Ireland Final, which this year due to COVID-19, will not take place at its usual venue, The Roundhouse. Wella is currently exploring options for an adapted Final with details to be announced soon.

The Winners of the Photographic stage can be found HERE.

Everyone who entered the TrendVision Photographic heat will be offered an exclusive online seminar and will be sent a direct message on Instagram with all the details. All the winning looks can be viewed HERE.

Congrats, everyone!
