The colourful world of Siobhan Golden

We’ve heard lots about her but never actually crossed paths with colour queen and Wella Professionals Colour Creative team member Siobhan Golden. But let us tell you, this wonder woman is definitely one to watch. As International Technical Artistic Director at Toni&Guy, fiancé to the equally talented Philipp Haug – yes, London Hairdresser of the Year 2018, that’s the one, and mum to the dynamic duo’s son, she juggles a lot but, from what we can tell, drops nothing. Here we quiz Siobhan on all things colour and discover what she loves about being on the Colour Creative Team…

Team work
The colour creative team has given me the chance to work with incredible colourists from different companies who have a different aesthetic and way of working, but share the same passion for creating beautiful hair colour,” explains Siobhan. “We get to see each other quite regularly at various Wella and industry events and it’s fantastic to see what everyone’s up to. It’s always so inspiring and motivating,” she adds.

Colour addict
A huge fan of the Wella Professionals colour portfolio, Siobhan has worked with the products for years and insists she loves how easy they are to use. “Honestly, it’s a hair colourist’s dream!” says Siobhan. “Want to use Welloxon Pastel from roots to ends with a red permanent tint?…go for it. Need a quick tonal refresh on a balayage? Colour Touch Relights adds gloss and tone in minutes and with no concern about it going darker as it’s pure tone.”

But if she had to choose, which would be her favorite line?
It changes all the time but at the moment I’m loving the new KP Me shades,” insists Siobhan. “I use it a lot on my blondes – especially 10/97 – it’s a game changer to create an expensive, even, shiny blonde.”

The launch of Color Fresh Create has also had a huge impact on Siobhan’s work both in terms of eduction and creativity, “I have a big base of models who are all about the vibrant tones and playful placement,” she explains. Equally though, when she’s in the Marlyebone salon Siobhan admits she loves bringing a pearlescent glaze to her natural brunette, tint and highlight clients using Illumina.

Obviously there is the seasonal change that is happening at the moment, so for clients is it all about blondes? “A lot of clients are naturally wanting to lift their colour, think of Gigi Hadid and her gorgeous natural golden tones. But I’ve also seen a big movement towards softer peppermints and peacock blues, maybe it’s because they’re so light reflective and shiny?! It feels so spring summer,” she enthuses.

Work/life balance
After having her son, Siobhan had an “amazing” ten months away from work but was excited to get back to the job she loves. She insists: “Toni&Guy have been really supportive of my return to work and I also have a very understanding fiancé, so we do a lot of juggling to make sure we both get to go to the industry events we want to, give it our all in work and still making the nursery pick up!
She concludes: “Hairdressing is not a nine to five job and that’s what I’ve always loved about it. But if you have a true passion for something and goals to work towards you’ll somehow make it happen!
