Pantone Classic Blue

You can expect to see a lot of blue in 2020! Oh yes, Pantone – the owners of the colour palette – announced a couple of days ago that its 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue. We see this as a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk.

Classic Blue: Color of the Year

Pantone Classic BlueIt’s a color that anticipates what’s going to happen next,” said Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, which selects the Colour of the Year. “What’s the future going to bring as we move into the evening hours?

Actually, in hairdressing you can argue that blue’s been top colour for a while now (okay, with pastel violets, pinks and greys in amongst). But with techno advances in the manufacturing of colours that last, blue has been a more satisfying, popular colour for quite some time now.

We recall an amazing blue in the images below:

Back to the news reports, and apparently the Pantone Color Institute says that the choice of blue is in order to give us a shade that “offers the reassurance, confidence and connection that people may be searching for in an uncertain global milieu.” According to the institute, the official Classic Blue scent is described in part as a “contemplation of where sky and sea meet;” the taste as “flowering vines;” the touch as a “soft velvety texture;” the sound as “vivid nostalgia.” Nice and poetic, eh?!

We invited some ideas on how to recreate blue for clients in the salon and here’s a selection of our favourite looks sent in. If you’re inclined, send us your blue looks and keep checking back to see what we’ve added to the gallery!:

True to its name, Classic Blue can be regal, restrained and boundless. But it can also be edgy — even anomalous — utilizing a variety of tonalities, materials and prints. (Think a new-age, Classic Blue concept car.) So plenty of scope for hairdressing inspo we say!
