Mark Leeson

What do British salons have to do to improve their colour service offering and really max business potential? We asked one of the most imaginative, influential and successful colour salons in the UK – Mark Leeson Hair Body and Mind Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. With Mark Leeson and partner Richard Darby (pictured) at the helm, they know what they’re talking about. Mark himself advises:
“To really max your business potential with your colour service you have to be shouting about it! Add images in your window, get the team talking about it and have marketing material round your salon to encourage conversation between you and your clients. One of your biggest adverts is your team, so ensure everyone who works in the salon has colour on their hair, trialling new trends and colour products; this instantly gives clients a talking point when they see the staff with new hair colour.
“We are lucky to have won quite a few awards for our colour work, and this certainly gives us something to shout about and a point of difference. Whenever we win an award, we shout about the message in our window and we always get the local media involved – a key factor in helping shout about your salon, so I’d advise anyone to do the same where they can.
“I would strongly advise you have team members that are recognised as real colour experts in the salon – and shout about it! So many colour houses offer expert training programmes so I really recommended you get as many of the team enrolled on the relevant courses. Not only is this a great morale for the team, but these recognised qualifications are an excellent way of ensuring you have true colour experts than can offer over and above your competition. Plus, it guarantees you are offering an exceptional colour service that you know clients will come back for!”
