Colour Project is go!

Okay 2019 is up and running and first out of the blocks with their programme of mentoring young colourists is the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Colour Project!

Meet Simon Shaw

Fellowship Colour ProjectTeam leader Paul Dennison (the smiler on the left with the hat!) from Ken Picton in Cardiff in his day job, took his crew along to meet Fellowship Chairperson, Simon Shaw who has a lot to share on the subject of stage skills. Simon taught the group how to deliver and engaging and inspiring presentation, including conquering their nerves. Vital first step, we say. Exercises to follow were focussed first on finding out more about one another – again, super-important as they’ll continue to work as a team – and then each presenting a moodboard on their personal creative aesthetic.
“I initially felt very apprehensive as it was so out of my comfort zone,” says Harriet Greenwood from Bad Apple Hair in Birmingham. “Even travelling to London for the first time on my own was a big thing. I’m so glad I pushed myself to do something I would never have had the confidence to do previously and I’ve already learnt to ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’.”
Ciara McNamee from Andrew Smith Salons in Hampshire agrees, adding: “I loved seeing everyone present their moodboards and having the support from Paul, Simon and the rest of the team was lovely. “I learnt so much, but I mainly learnt that most of what I believe I do wrong is in my head; it’s all about controlling how you think and slowing down your breathing. That allows you to take a moment to collect your thoughts and carry on in a much calmer state. We were pushed out of our comfort zone, but we all progressed over the day and got to know each other better in the process.”

A word from Paul

And how did Paul Dennison feel after his inaugural day as mentor for the 2019 Colour Project? “I was really looking forward to meeting the team, being able to put faces to names and sharing with them what I have in store for their year,” he says. “It was so rewarding to see the team grow in confidence in just one days, using the skills that Simon had given them to nail their presentations,” he continues. “I can’t wait to see how they develop over the next 12 months with the help of some incredible mentors.”
